Anton Weiss in Cassville

There was another item in the map I found yesterday that is of interest to me. On one of the other sheets is a city map of Cassville, where my great great grandfather Anton Weiss operated a hardware store for close to 50 years.

Just as I was able to find Patrick Parker in Glen Haven, Anton Weiss store shows up in this map too:

Here’s what the location looks like today:

I’ve made one visit to Cassville, but at the time I didn’t know the location of the family home.

Do you know if that is the original building in which the hardware store was located? The window size, roof lines and turret seem reasonable for the era, though I am by no means an expert in architecture...

In any case, it reminds me of the setting of the hardware store in the beginning of the movie Beetlejuice, so I am imagining it as being part of a picturesque little village.

Just wanted to say I've been enjoying your genealogy posts. Cassville caught my attention, though. Around that same time (mid 1860's), I had ancestors (Friedleins, to be specific) in Guttenberg and Jefferson Township, Iowa, just across the river. I've seen Cassville mentioned in a few places in their records, and visited Guttenberg a few years ago. Wouldn't be surprised to find that your folks and my folks crossed paths at some point. Small world. :)

Heya! I am tentatively planning a trip to the Guttenberg area mid-July and would be happy to do lookups on your folks while I'm digging around for my folks. Let me know if that's something you'd be interested in. :)
