FGS convention

There's a genealogy convention in May that I want to go to, but I can't talk myself into pulling the trigger. This is the same thing that I did from 2010-2013 when I didn't have an earned income.  I can't bring myself to spend money that I have on things I want to do, because what if I need that money when I am 80.  I don't have kids to take care of me then.

that sounds stressful, I'm sorry. is it the kind of thing that rational budget planning won't get at?

understandable!

if this is a thing that's stressing you out and you want to change, Captain Awkward had a very relevant letter at # 1019; and if you were just venting, I apologize for offering unsolicited advice.

I hope it's useful.

Haven't you thought of genealogy as a career? This would count towards that.

(I get the mindset, but the Historical Novel conventions I've been to were absolutely worth it.)
