Three movies
Feb. 16th, 2003 07:32 pmFirst, Blow starring Johnny Depp as George Jung, a Boston youth who becomes a drug smuggler. Well acted, but ultimately a flat movie. I just never really seem to get into biopics. 2 stars.
Next, The Sixth Sense starring Haley Joel Osment and Bruce Willis. Never saw it before, and no one told me the
twist.
But I knew there was a twist, and I've read Orson Card's The Lost Boys which uses the same plot device. I knew it as soon as Donnie Wahlberg shot himself in the head what the catch was. Still, this was a well acted movie. I loved the score, which turned out (cause I watched the Special Features too) to be breathing. Lots of breathing. Shyalaman did good to keep the movie short though. 4 stars.
And last, Donnie Darko starring Jake Gyllenhaal. I've heard lots and lots of raves about the movie. I don't get it. I'm not saying it's a bad movie. I just don't really get it. No rating. Not 0. Just no rating. Might re-watch this movie and see if I get it this time.
Oh, my new star rating system for movies. 0 stars means really really phenomenally bad, or that I'm sure I don't want to see it at all. 1 means I've seen it, and I didn't like it. 2 stars means I don't want to see it again. It could be bad, and maybe sometimes okay but just not worth seeing again. 3 stars is decent, but I probably wouldn't go out of my way for it. Could watch again though. 4 stars means I like it a bunch, and would recommend it. 5 stars makes it really really enjoyable. Don't think I could get tired of a 5 star movie.
