I say you take a couple days to go to the coast. There is a neat little hotel that has all suites - its low-key, though. It is about 30 minutes from Rialto Beach and First Beach (which includes a walk from the tree line down to the water), and about ummm...an hour from the rain forest. Cook for yourself in the little kitchenette, watch cable, then during the day go hang out on the beach or at the rain forest and read, or go for walks.
