Housity house house

I'm going to go to Tacoma and view a house during their open house tomorrow. Pictures look nice and it's $300K, which is $100K+ less than my condo. I don't know if I'm ready to pull the trigger, but starting to view houses may get me off my "maybe someday" thing.
As I'm getting older, being in proximity to my social circle is becoming less important. I'm just not going to be going out that many days a week.
What is important though is being able drive less. The house I'll be looking at is a 0.9 mile walk from the nearest grocery. It's closer to a grocery than where I am now, but still not close. However, it may be safer to ride a bike in Tacoma. My neighborhood has no bike infrastructure and lots of aggressive drivers. Eastlake is averaging about 10 car to bike collisions every year.
