2019-2020 HB 1110

My letter to my 43rd district legislators regarding House Bill 1110, which Governor Inslee is touting as bold legislation that will reduce our carbon emissions in Washington state. What it does is mandate that we figure out a way to regulate less carbon out of the same amount of gasoline.
Hello 43rd legislators!
I do not oppose this bill, but I am concerned that it is insufficient in the face of our climate crisis. The proven way to reduce carbon in our transportation sector is to use less carbon. This bill says that regulating fuel standards will automagically make us emit less carbon for the same amount of fuel. Essentially, it's trying to make it so we don't have to sacrifice or change our transportation behavior and yet we will still get the needed results! And maybe we can! But it seems pretty far out.
So I encourage you to introduce bills that will find ways to directly reduce the use of gasoline and diesel.
Thank you,
Philip Weiss
