It's everything I loved about King Rat and Perdido Street Station by Mieville and Neverwhere by Gaiman all rolled into one.
I'm only about 1/4 in cuz I'm a slow reader, but I really like what seems to be happening re: flipping the finger at the heroine stereotype. If the sidekick does indeed take the day, I'm going to have to reiterate my intentions to ... hmm, what does a non-marrying type say in these moments? ... have my way with China Mieville? O:>

Heh. Stupid not so much cause I work in a bookstore as stupid because I would steal your copy.
We actually didn't have a copy for weeks (and still may not, I haven't checked lately). We sold a couple and the remaining copies were purchased with a 5-finger discount. Since sales weren't that great (because only a couple of copies were sold) we don't get additional copies unless the lead notices and orders more. Which he told me he planned to do, but I haven't checked recently.
